Nose Surgery
I often see patients who are not happy with the way their nose looks. In many cases, these patients request what is called nose surgery, or rhinoplasty. The purpose of this procedure is to improve the appearance of your nose or how it functions if you have breathing problems.During your first visit, I will examine your nose and determine the proper action to take to give you the results that you want.
It is very important that you describe exactly what you want because I will not perform any surgeries that could harm my patients or give their nose an unnatural appearance.
There are two types of rhinoplasties:
- The first is done inside the nose. This procedure does not require any exterior incisions, but rather small incisions inside the nasal cavity. This procedure is simpler and ideal for making small adjustments.
- The second type is called open rhinoplasty, which is done when more complex corrections are needed.
When performing an open rhinoplasty, I separate the skin on the nasal septum by making an incision between the nostrils. Afterwards, I start sculpting the bone and cartilages until the desired shape is achieved, and then finish by putting the skin back on top of the new nasal septum with stitches.
Later on, I cover the nose with tape and bandages. I also have patients use nasal plugs for a couple of days to prevent bleeding.
Post-SurgeryAfter a rhinoplasty, inflammation goes away after about seven days. During that period of time, you will be a bit unable. Resting will help speed up your recovery. I'll remove the bandages and nasal plugs after a couple of days, but you will still have to wear tape until day 20. It's possible that bruising occurs around the eyes and the area I operated on. The bruising, however, will go away relatively fast depending on your skin tone. By the tenth day, the bruises will be gone no matter what skin tone you have. I can prescribe medication to alleviate any pain that the patient has.
It's crucial for you follow all of my instructions, including sleeping with your head tilted a bit upwards for the first few days after the surgery. This will help reduce inflammation.
The nose is the focal point of the face, which means that it's shape and size can add are important. As a certified plastic surgeon, I will fix anything you don't like about your nose and give it a natural appearance while improving breathing. You will be able to see the final results six months after the procedure.
